EKKI - D70
Ekki/Azobe comes from the Ochnaceae family, it is also known by its Latin name of Lophira Alata and it originates from West Africa. Ekki is graded to D70, which makes it a very durable timber. This exceptionally heavy density wood has a very high bending and crushing strength, and high stiffness and resistance to shock loads.
The colour of Ekki varies from a dark red to chocolate brown, with white conspicuous white deposits in the pores giving a speckled appearance. It has an interlocked grain with a coarse and uneven texture. It glues satisfactory an can be stained and polished normally.
The main uses of Ekki include marine construction, sleepers, heavy construction, heavy duty flooring, bridge building, bog mats, superior joinery and decking.
